HSC ATAR and scaling calculator

We estimate a scaled mark per unit by matching the published HSC and scaled-mark percentiles in UAC’s 2025 report (Table A3). This is a modelling assumption: these are cohort distributions, not paired student results. UAC warns that there is no unique HSC-to-scaled conversion. This model has not been validated against individual results.

Your aggregate includes the best two units of English, then the best eight remaining units. Extra English units can count in the remaining eight. The calculator checks four subject areas and at least three courses worth two or more units, along with the supported English and maths extension prerequisites.

With Mathematics Extension 2, Extension 1 counts as two units and Mathematics Advanced does not contribute. Mathematics Extension marks are entered out of 100; English Extension marks are entered out of 50. Scaled marks are shown out of 50 per unit.

The ATAR is interpolated between the 2025 aggregate thresholds in Table A9 and rounded to 0.05. Below the lowest published threshold we display “Below 50” rather than invent a rank.

Scores outside the published scaling points are estimated using the same bounded curves as the scaling explorer and flagged as less reliable. Scaling changes each year. These estimates do not include university adjustments, VET or higher education increments, unlisted courses, or individual eligibility checks.

This version supports 31 subjects. Use final HSC marks, not raw school or exam percentages.
